Oscar’s path into tile work and renovations wasn’t exactly traditional—but it’s a story of passion, persistence, and family. It began in 2009 when he jumped into real estate investing, buying, renovating, and renting homes. Through that journey, he noticed one thing over and over again: kitchens and bathrooms sell homes. And at the center of those spaces? Tile.

Done right, tile has the power to completely transform a home.

At first, Oscar brought in his brother Ewald (who was working for a tile company at the time) to handle the tile work on his projects. Soon, Oscar rolled up his sleeves and joined Ewald on the job, learning the craft firsthand. What began as a side hustle quickly turned into a passion. The brothers decided to team up, start their own business, and focus on delivering quality tilework that combines skill, precision, and artistry.

Originally from Venezuela, Oscar has also lived in Florida, St. Petersburg, and Valencia, Spain. After more than two decades calling Canada home, he pulls inspiration from his international living experiences. His work is influenced by that mix of cultures and design, shaping the way he sees and approaches every project. To Oscar, tile setting is more than just a trade—it’s a craft that can elevate an entire space when done with care and attention to detail.

Oscar’s proud to be part of a trade that’s all about working with your hands and creating something lasting. He’s also passionate about encouraging younger generations to explore skilled trades, especially as traditional training paths like the Red Seal program become less common.

Outside of work, Oscar’s all about family, soccer (fútbol!), and storytelling—like the time his wife went into labour while he was laying tile in their new garage suite. Life gets busy, but for Oscar, it all comes back to doing work you’re proud of, with people you trust.

Ewald Hungsberg Sanchez is the lead craftsman and co-founder behind the Tile Experts, the family-run tile installation business he shares with his brother Oscar. With over a decade of hands-on experience, Ewald’s passion for the trade shines through every project—from flawless floors to eye-catching kitchens and stunning bathrooms. His goal is simple: to impress clients with craftsmanship that’s both artistic and built to last.

Ewald’s path into the trades began in 2006, first learning insulation, drywall, and painting before discovering a love for tile work. He quickly moved from helper to skilled installer, taking pride in the detail and creativity the job demands. In 2013, he and Oscar teamed up to launch their own business, rooted in family values, trust, and a commitment to quality over shortcuts.

Originally from Venezuela, Ewald has also lived in Florida and Spain, and now calls Edmonton home. These global experiences, along with his Spanish and German roots, influence his work with a sharp eye for design and structure. Today, he focuses on private residential projects, where he enjoys connecting directly with homeowners and seeing the joy his work brings to their spaces.

The Tile Experts has grown steadily over the years, thanks mostly to happy clients spreading the word. Oscar and Ewald now lead a solid, close-knit team that’s focused on doing great work and building something meaningful for clients. The Tile Experts (formerly The Tile Installation Specialists) have even been featured on BestInEdmonton.ca as one of the top tile installation companies in the city.

When Ewald is not transforming homes, you’ll find him spending time with his wife and four kids or playing soccer, basketball, or ping pong. For Ewald, family, respect, and pride in your work are what it’s all about.
